2021 Update - We are honored to be the only doll store currently acquiring Rotraut's work worldwide.  We have just posted a magnificent piece below and there is some other amazing work shown below. Rotraut only creates a couple dolls a year now. They are tomorrows antique masterpieces. Other amazing pieces are shown below.  She goes completely where her imagination takes her and all of her concepts are completely original. That is what we love about her! No two are ever the same. Rotraut Schrott Biography

Rotraut has been known as a master sculptor since 1981.  Her first ever appearance in the USA was at our 1988 Doll Show.  She sculpted for Gadco who then produced her work in porcelain and vinyl at the time.   She left Gadco in 1999 and returned to creating her own original one of a kind work.  Many of our famous artists were originally inspired by Rotraut.  Others have studied her books and admired her work before they even began doll making.  Her dolls are made of Cernit with a cloth body.  She paint the eyes and uses human hair.   She finds the most amazing and unique antique fabrics, dresses and accessories for her dolls.  She only sculpts about 2 one-of-a-kind dolls a year and says that she really just wants to focus now on what inspires her.

 AURORA -One of a kind masterpiece by Rotraut Schrott - Brand new for 2021

Sculpted in Cernit, 103 cm or 40.55 inches (approx. 41 inches tall), Sculpted hair, eyes hand painted blue, legs and arms are sculpted until over the elbow and over the knees. The body is stuffed cloth body w/armature. Shoes are sculpted. In the right hand she holds and antique little doll head. The dress is a fine knitted skirt. The top is made of laces with puffy sleeves. The pants are of muslin and there is a fixed green ribbon and hanging down green leaves. On the skirt there is also all white hand sculpted white flowers. The necklace has a coral pendant.

There is a real golden crucifix on her forehead.  Small white pigeons on either side of her head and an antique little doll from 1940.  Also hanging from her hair is a crocheted white dress with hat, a wood-carved baby-angel, a wooden violin and a wooden harp.

Under her right arm there is a baby-carriage from ( Rock + Graner 1870-1880), with an antique little porcelain doll from 1830 (worth a lot of money).  There is also a jumping jack (woman), and other small things.

In her left arm she holds a little book title: “Sources of pleasures of music”, and little porcelain “Pulcinella” from 1900, also a pocket watch with chain.  On her left shoulder sits a  little angel on a golden ball.

The right foot is on a footrest, upholstery embroidered.

The high-chair is a special production in acrylic.

Sitting on the acrylic chair, with head-piece, Rapunzel is 57" (145cm).

The headpiece is made of strings of pearls and a pure silver headband .

At her feet sit two old India figures, carved of wood.

Several glass-crystal chains are hanging from her hands to symbolize the running water.

The fabric for “Sari” is made of silver threads with silver edging.

On arms and legs are Rotraut hand-painted India decorations.

On the fingers there are several pure silver rings.

On the left arm, hangs a little golden water-kettle.

Underwear: white silk pant with colored braids at the side and at the bottom of the pants are decorated with silver bells. On the right foot she wears a snake bangle.

Flight from King Herod One of a kind After a visit from the Magi, Joseph learns that King Herod plans to kill all the infants in the area.  Joseph takes Mary and Baby Jesus into Egypt.  This "Flight into Egypt" is a biblical event described in the Gospel of Matthew.

Made of Cernit/Modelene Clay.  Mother is 41" and Baby is 13 1/2" Mother Mary has cloth body with armature.  She has medium brown human hair and painted brown eyes. Baby Jesus has cloth body with armature.  Head is movable.  Painted brown eyes and painted hair.

The Mother wears a beige  under-dress of taffeta and white  linen pants. The long dress is of brocade in wine red, with golden braid trimmings and  (very old) glass stones with pearls. The cape is of red velvet  with  hood.  The cap is of red velvet with golden ornaments and  pearls.  The purse is of green velvet with many tassels.

Baby wears a white fine cotton shirt, with red/blue golden braid trimming, and a fine white cotton pants with lace borders.  Baby  sits in a yellow velvet  carrier bag, The cap is made  of cotton and velvet with many yellow  tassels.  The baby is also  wrapped in a purple silk scarf.

The slipper are also  of red velvet with the same golden ornaments like the cap. The sole is of leather.

“Aya” is a Japanese warrior. Her brown dress is covered with ornaments and pulled in with a golden sash & braid trimmings. The back of the dress is closed with 47 golden buttons. The red coat is very special. It is interwoven with golden threads and has embroidered red sleeves. On both sides of the coat there are Japanese warrior pictures hand painted on taffeta by Rotraut. They are each fitted with a small silk curtain which you can let fall down to protect the picture according to Japanese custom. On the back front of the coat is a picture of a Japanese Lady. In one hand is a fan, in the other a red pigeon. Her shoes are hand made.

“Tuti”, Rotraut’s gorgeous Mongolian girl wears a white silk blouse. The bib is trimmed with silver lace and colored braid trimmings. The skirt is made of dark pink silk velvet decorated with braid trimmings. In front of the skirt is the white silk apron embroidered in silver thread with a picture of a horse. It is also decorated with tassels and trimming braids. On the right side of the skirt there is a pocket. Inside is an old black wooden horse. Her broad waist band is embroidered with silver threads. Her head adorns an antique Mongolian cap.

Beautiful “La Rose” wears a pink taffeta & white tulle skirt. The front of her red velvet jacket is embroidered  tapestry. The unique positioning of her right arm over her head allows the roses to fall down like a waterfall. The antique roses are made of velvet or silk. She wears a crystal chain in her hair styled in long thin pigtails showing that a rose is not only beautiful but also thorny. “La Rose” wears beige underwear with braid trimmings. She has hand painted small roses on her feet. She is stunning and one of just about five dolls Rotraut will create this year especially for the Dollery. Visit our site for more examples of her work.

Size: without crown: 38 1/2 inches, with crown 42 inches brown painted eyes stuffed body with armature sculpted in Cernit/Modelen   The antique crown of Maria is very old.  She wears a dress of silk rep with flowers and in front silk ribbons in purple and white, decorated with pearls, and silver borders with red diamonds (glass) , also golden borders. In front at the end of dress there are decorated old silk flowers, and there is a golden frill all around the dress decorated with blue flowers and golden pearls. The top, red silk ribbon, is decorated with a pearl chain, and in the middle there is a painture by Rotraut with diamonds, also on the neck a painture by Rotraut, with diamond. She holds a scepter decorated with many pearls, on top is a silver cross. The sleeves are made of lace.  The antique veil is decorated with golden hearts all the way to the bottom, and also very old.  A lot of handwork, all done by Rotraut, went into the making of this dress.

Korean Girl - SOLD - but taking orders for similar type pieces (never exact) so contact kmalone@dollery.com to get in the que for 2011 orders already almost booked up. One of a Kind - Cernit & Modelene w/ Cloth body and wire armature. The Korean-Girl is 39 inches, long dark-brown  human hairwig, brown painted eyes. On her head there is a flower of fabric and white and blue ribbons. The skirt is made of beige silk, decorated with many braid trimmings, ribbons and tulle-ribbon with golden embroidery. In front of the skirt there are handpainted roses on tafeta,also decorated with braid trimmings.  The Hanbok (top) is of fine linen, decorated with white, blue and brown-red threads.The sleeves are lined with golden silk, shoes are made of hemp by me. In her arms is the lion (Steiff) Bunk-Chung Saja, decorated with many threads ending in perls, protecting the Koreangirl. The underwear is made of white linen, also a yellow underskirt in fine cotton. She comes with an acrylic-stand, in the body there is an armature to move arms.

The Golden Lady is dressed in a beautiful gold and black silk dress.  The golden ornaments on the black sash were all hand painted by Rotraut.  The gloves and shoes were also hand painted by her. This piece is amazing.  We chose her for our cover doll because we felt she was exceptionally outstanding.  We especially loved the positioning of the doll's hands and arms.  Comes with a stand.

Princess Hyacinth has sculpted arms and legs that are sculpted over her elbows and knees.  She has a stuffed fabric body with armature.  She wears a hand made gold top with a green velvet vest and white taffeta underskirt covered with fine white cotton tulle.  She wears painted ornaments on her neck and feet hyacinthy flower piercings.  The hyacinth flowers are hand sculpted by Rotraut and are affixed on the vest, skirt and crown.  The gold crown is a very rar antique piece aquired by Rotraut.  She sits on a clear acrylic chair.
