Tipli
and Laki (below) are ethnic Adivasi girls from the Kutia
Khond
tribal group in
Orissa,
India.
Kondhas use little covering on the body. Women wear two cloths, one
around the waist up to the knees and another for the upper portion of
the body. The Kondh women are very fond of ornaments. Tipli and Laki
have beautified themselves with hair pins, ear rings, nose rings, and
bead necklaces. The Kutia Kondhs tattoo their faces and hands. The
Kondhs are agriculturists. They produce crops like turmeric, ginger,
mustard, niger, black gram, arrowroot etc. They celebrate various
festivals round the year for better yield of crops. Tipli and Laki
dressed themselves beautifully for the Chaitra parab festival. They both
have flowers in their hair. |

Fatuma and Sefi (below) are Karo from Southern
Ethiopia. They live close to the Omo
River.
Their neighbours are the Hamar, Bana, Bashada, the famous Mursi and
Nyangatom (on the other side of Omo river, who are their enemies).The
Karo are renowned for their elaborate body and face painting using white
chalk, charcoal, ochre and red
earth..
Women wear leather clothing made from
animal skins. The Karo grow sorghum, maize and beans. |

Jimena,
Mayra and Mila (below) are from Peru. They all wear the typical knitted
hat called “Chullo” made from alpaca wool. Jimena also wears a felt
hat. Peruvian clothing is extremely colourful. They wear several layers
of clothing to protect against the cold at high altitude. The children
are playing house with the domestic animals that you see in Peru. Jimena
is playing with a goat. Mayra has an alpaca. Mila carries her Peruvian
doll with her in a baby sling. |
